About

Whether writing about mental health, popular culture or sexuality, Megan brings wry humor and an impressive depth of knowledge to her subject matter. Her writing is elegant yet digestible, dazzling academic conference panels and alt-weekly readers alike.

Raised by TV, Megan grew up during the cable boom at the end of the 20th Century. After college she parlayed her pop obsessions into a writing career, covering the music & arts beat in her hometown of Kansas City, MO. A born performer, Megan has taken to the stage as a storyteller, karaoke jockey, DJ, improviser, and burlesque dancer. In 2006, her dance troupe, the Burly Q Girly Crew shimmied all the way to Austin, TX where they performed with electroclash doyenne Peaches. It was there that Megan was caught unawares by a photog from Glamour Magazine. Her image landed in the fashion rag’s feature “The Greatest Do’s and Don’t of All Time.” Megan was a “Don’t.”

She considers this her greatest achievement to date.

After a five-year stint in New York City, Megan currently resides in Chicago. She earned her Master’s in 2016 from DePaul University, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Media & Identity. Her thesis, That’s Ru-Volting! How Reality TV Reimagines Perceptions of American Success argues that the reality competition RuPaul’s Drag Race recontextualizes drag queens as marginalized artists with an expensive hobby into an awe-inspiring queer super hero with a lucrative livelihood. Given the show’s skyrocketing success as a global juggernaut a few short years later, her work has since proved prescient.

No longer in academia, Megan is chasing her childhood dreams of putting on a show as a standup comedian and live show producer in Chicago. She is the co-host, co-creator & co-producer of The Good Guy Show. Her second venture, Creep Show, debuts October 2024.
